Dhanushkodi is a lean strip of
land located at the bottom of India. The long road of 9.5 km long from
Mukuntharayor Chathiram to Dhanushkodi. It is also called as “Last Road of India”
as there is nothing after that. We can enjoy the ride at both side of beach and
golden beauty. Sri Lanka is just 15 km away from this last road. We can use the
ferry ride to reach there.
Yes, this is also the only place nearer
to birth city of Missile Man of India, Dr. A.P.J. Adul Kalam.
Mythological Threads Weaving Through Dhanushkodi
Dhanushkodi’ s history is connected
with the epic tale of Lord Rama. As per the Ramayana, Dhanushkodi was the place
from where Lord Hanuman boarded on his heroic jump towards Lanka in search of
the kidnapped Sita Maa.
The identical stones and arrows that Lord Rama’s
army used to make the bridge between India and Lanka are held below the waves which created the mysterious
"Ram Setu" or Adam's Bridge. Its remains are still
there in Arabian Sea.
The Abandoned City of Dhanushkodi:
The town's tragic history is another
layer of its mystique. In the 1964, a devastating cyclone struck here which wiped
out almost everything in its path. Train routes, houses, churches and roads
vanished below the cruelty of nature. About 115 lives were claimed dead in this
tragedy. Dhanushkodi was just left with remains of cyclone entitling the city
as the "Ghost Town."
