Maharashtra is a land of great warriors who fought with Mughals invader for Swarajya. The brave son of Rajmata Jijabai, the great king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj first took oath at Raireshwar temple in 1645 to build Swarajya. Thereafter, Maharaj started various Mohim. He built many forts to expand Swarajya and acquired many of them from Mughals.
One
of the Fort of huge importance to Swarajya was Lohagad. Now-a-days, it has been a great
attraction for tourists from different corner of India. Even many foreigners’
visit India to see the beauty of Sahyadri hills. Lohagad is just 65 kms away from Pune.
The best time to visit this place is in rainy season. The natural greenery around the fort doubles itself in this season, which makes it heart catching. When I visited this place, we started around 9.30 in the morning from Pune, within one and half hour with one tea break, we reached the Lohagad district.
The
view which we got there is impossible to tell in words. We were on very high
altitude that we were not able to see view of front 200m distance because the
weather was so foggy there. After trekking for about 5 km, we came to know
that it was just beginning & we have just reached to Lohagad fort's feet.
Anyhow with full of energy, we again started to track.
After reaching at the top, we were totally exhausted but the view (scenery)
from there was so beautiful that our tiredness was vanished for some time. It
was looking like " Land in between clouds”.
Though they used to charge for fort entry but the view
there was worth of it. On the top of the fort, there's Shiv temple, stone cave
and horse stable. Many stories and facts were craved there on fort walls, which
tells us the integrity of fort. But I was surprised that how the horses would have
been climbed on fort.
Must visit places at the top of fort, pls visit as per below sequence :-
- Kabar
- Sabha mandal
- Lakxmi Kothi
- Mahadev Mandir
- Ashtakoni Talav
- 16 Koni Talav
- Vinchu Kada
After exploring the whole place, we decided to went down. But, the overall journey was awesome. We felt sad when we came to know that there is one more fort near that fort. But, due to lack of time, we were not able to see that on the same day.
Tip - If you plan to trek for Lohgad, just try to be there on 8 o'clock because
Visapur fort is another fort which is just near to Lohagad. So, that you will have sufficient
time to see both forts.
